AIM: The aim is to assimilate and implement
state of the art technology and create newer one in the field of hardware and software
related to real time system implementation.
FOCUS: The focus of the group currently is on
the technologies related to the following areas:
- Programmable Logic controllers
- Embedded Systems/ Microcontrollers
- Virtual Instrumentation
Each of the above fields is of importance either
for their wide application in industrial environment or for their newness industrial
application.
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC):
Although the concept is not new, wide
application of PLC in industrial environment draws attention of both professionals and
academicians.
Advanced technology group is involved in the
following activities related to this field:
- Implementation of Process Control using PLC
- Implementation of Intelligent Controllers using PLC
- Design of PLC
- Training of Manpower in PLC operation
Embedded Systems/ Microcontrollers:
Embedded systems based on different microcontrollers
are being designed and put into operation for controlling real time systems. The
microcontrollers and the embedded boards currently being used are of INTEL series and ARM.
Activities undertaken in this area fall
under the following categories:
- Design of microcontroller based embedded system for Process
Automation
- Design and implementation of Assembler for microcontroller
- Design and implementation of RTOS (small) for dedicated real-time
interfacing
- Designing of Intelligent Controller like Fuzzy Controller using
Microcontroller.
- Training of manpower in microcontroller based embedded system design.
- Executing various types or programs/protocols (Bluetooth) in the
Embedded Boards.
- Development of Real Time Kernels for VxWORKS RTOS.
- Development of different kinds of applications in Ericsson Bluetooth
Board.
- Designing and developing different kind of applications using J2ME
(Java 2 Micro Edition) with J2ME Emulator from Motorola and Nokia as well.
Virtual Instrumentation : LabVIEW as a general
platform for instrumentation development and training is being planned to be implemented
shortly. The activity in this field will be as follows:
- Design of virtual instruments in LabVIEW for real-time operation.
- Simulation of instruments in LabVIEW.
- Training of manpower in LabVIEW.
