Electrical Systems Analysis, Modeling & Simulation
ESAMS Group
Major areas of focus are as follows:
- Research into Fundamental Issues related to Electrical Systems
Research into power systems stability, power system state
estimation, load forecasting models, contingency analysis, fault analysis, load
optimization techniques, FACT (Flexible AC Transmission), HVDC problems, robotic control
and guidance systems, etc.
- Software Development for Study of Electrical Systems
Development of stand-alone software modules (related to
simulation, analysis and modeling of Analog and Digital Electrical Systems) in C++ on
Linux platform using GTK+ based GUIs. We also focus on developing add-on modules for
MatLAB, Mathematica, etc. Another area of study is the application of advanced computing
algorithms like fuzzy sets, neural nets, genetic algorithms, etc., to ESAMS problems.
- Design of Digital Systems and PC Based Systems related to Electrical
Systems
Developing Microprocessor and Microcontroller based solutions in
hardware. Developing PC based systems for specialized applications related to control
systems, robotic systems, etc.
- Training in Software Tools and Hardware Systems
Development of training programs on the use of various tools
like MatLAB, MathCAD, Mathematica, LabView, etc., with particular focus on modeling and
simulation of Electrical Systems. Develop and offer high-end specialized training courses
on topics like Switchgear Protection, Power System Design, Microprocessor based Control
Systems, etc.
