VLSI Design
We at NIST have a very small VLSI group who basically works on the
designing and modeling of VLSI Circuits and do some interesting research work on VLSI
Technology. Our VLSI lab is well equipped with all EDA tools such as
- OrCAD PSpice for Analog/Digital Circuit Design, Simulation,
capacitance extraction etc.
- Xilinx FPGA for Digital System/Subsystem Design
- FPGA Advantage and Aldec for VHDL/Verilog
- Tanner Tool for designing of the circuit from Schematic to Layout,
LVS test and Capacitance Extraction.
The VLSI group here gives two elective courses on VLSI Technology
and VLSI Design in 7th and 8th Semester respectively. The group
gives Summer Training to students and industry people in Electronic Design Automation
Software Tools for VLSI/ASIC Design.
The research work of VLSI group is mainly on Device Modeling,
Creation of Library for different EDA tools, and Fault tolerance and testing. Modeling of
two-dimensional MOS devices to use in VLSI circuits is one of the core area of research
here. We concentrate mainly on the creation of Library for high-frequency devices, which
are yet to incorporate in software such as in PSPice. Fault tolerance and testing of
Digital Circuits using BDD and OBDD is another one area of research here. Dr. Ajit Kumar
Panda who has done a number of courses/training on VLSI Courses heads the group. The group
is receiving research fund from Department of Science and Technology, Government of India
and University Grant Commission, India. A number of students are doing B.E. project in
this area in different topics. Presently two candidates are involved in this group for
pursuing their Ph.D. degree. Faculty/Staff involved in this area are :
- Dr. A.K.Panda, Ph.D., PDF (University of Michigan)
- Mr. M. Suresh, M.Tech in VLSI (Jadavpur University)
- Mr. Susant Das, M. Tech in VLSI (IIT, Delhi)
- Mrs. P. V. Rajeswari, M. Tech in Microelectronics (IT, BHU)
- Mr. Manash Das, B.E. in electronics and Electrical (NIST)
- Mr. R.K. Dash, Diploma in electronics engineering
- Mr. D. Khadanga, Part-time Research Scholar
- Mr. Deepu Mishra, Research Scholar
